Nice blog about the Chief Destruction Officer. It dovetailed well with my discussions with Paul McKaughan and the articles he has produced recently on deleveraging.
My sense is that many historic/traditional missions need significant innovation and likely need to look to the local churches globally as well as the freshly founded or refocused ministries. I don't see much innovation in the historic/traditional mission front but am eager to hear stories of what's happening out there.

March 31, 2009 (view this discussion as thread) I teach a college religion class, and we have students design their own service learning project. Though teachers could design a more impressive project, students experience greater involvement and purpose this way. It really imparts the "do it yourself" message.

All this flows with my ideas on the punkification of missions. I'd love to hear what you think.

February 5, 2009 (view this discussion as thread) Regardless of your ministry context, the economic downturn is probably having some kind of negative impact on your plans for 2009. The February video blog will go live later today and it is about the importance of hope in leadership. One of the fundamental responsibilities of spiritual leadership is to inspire followers with hope in God and what He is doing.
In this video blog thought I make the case that while it is true, hope is not a strategy, without hope a good strategy rarely emerges and is almost never executed. Watch for an email later today announcing the post of this month's vlog and give me your feedback after you have a chance to check it out.

I recorded the January video blog last week. The title is, "What's on your things to stop list?" Every effective leader has the functional equivalent of a 'things to do list,' few have a well thought out things to stop list.
My premise is that failure to develop and manage a things to stop list can negatively impact our effectiveness and productivity as much or more as failure to develop and manage a things to do list. What do you think?

December 5, 2008 (view this discussion as thread) Steve, I just watched your latest Vlog on competition and let me just say 'amen'. As a engineer, I often see life and the world from scientific terms. In this case, the importance of opposition force is critical to all existance. The balance between gravity and centripital force allows us to walk. So it is with healthy (just like you described in your three elements) competition. It allows us to have the greatest impact for the Kingdom. Opposing thumbs only allow us to pick things up because of the opposition. But, the opposition only become effective and useful when applied in partnership. Thanks for the stimulating thoughts.

October 6, 2008 (view this discussion as thread) The October video blog is up and I'm raising questions about mission organizations and creation care. I believe the day is fast approaching where prospective parishoners for a church and constituents for a mission organization will include environmental friendliness as one of the factors affecting how likely they are to get involved. What do you think?
